BALI: The Secretary of State for the Ministry of Environment and Head of the Cambodian Delegation at the Joint Environment and Climate Ministerial Meeting (JECMM), Eang Sophalleth, has said that Cambodia welcomes the expansion of international partnerships and partnerships with the private sector to implement mechanisms for promoting change leading to sustainable and low carbon emissions.

He made these remarks at the pre-closing meeting of the JECMM, held under the theme "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" on Wednesday, 31 August, in Bali, Indonesia.

Secretary Eang Sophalleth stated at the meeting, “Adaptation to climate change and the reduction of greenhouse gases need to be implemented simultaneously, which will help ensure that climate change response solutions are effective and contribute to benefits in overall and social welfare. In this regard, Cambodia welcomes the expansion of international partnerships and partnerships with the private sector to implement mechanisms driving the transition to a sustainable and low-carbon economy."

The Secretary of State also briefed the G20 countries and other parties in attendance that Cambodia, as the rotating chair of ASEAN, is leading the drafting of the ASEAN Statement on Climate Change for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-27) to the UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt later this year.

The G20 meeting was chaired by the Minister of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia, as it currently assumes the rotating chair of the G20 in 2022. The meeting was attended by delegates, ministers and deputy ministers of all G20 countries, along with Cambodia as the rotating chair of ASEAN, and a number of organizations under the auspices of the United Nations.
